Mets Morning News: Mets Sign A Pair, Francisco To Resume Throwing Soon

New York Mets related news and links for February 22, 2013

The Mets added two more players on minor-league contracts yesterday, outfielder James Roche and RHP Andy Wells. Roche was given an invitation to spring training, while Wells will report to minor-league camp.

Frank Francisco fans got some good news yesterday, as the reliever is set to resume throwing on Monday. I guess we can scrap the idea of Bobby Parnell the closer for the time being.

MLBPA president Michael Weiner was in camp yesterday, and he noted that the Mets will likely need to spend more money in order to contend. Having a larger payroll would certainly help the Mets have some room for error, but plenty of teams manage to contend on a payroll in the $100 million range.

David looked back at February 21 in New York Mets history.

James continued the community projection series with everyone's favorite third baseman.

Around Baseball

Over at Baseball Nation they had a stab at ranking all of the major moves made this winter. The R.A. Dickey TRAID was very high on the list.

Alex Remington wrote something that really needed writing, asking if MLB should start taking DUI as seriously as PED use. This seems like a no-brainer.

Giancarlo Stanton didn't make too much of a fuss yesterday when asked about the dire situation of being a Marlin, but Jeff Passan wrote a bit about it for us anyway. I honestly feel bad for all 18 Marlins fans out there.
