Spring Training Recap: Nationals 6, Mets 4 — Den Dekker Makes Great Catch

Chris Trotman

The Mets lost to the Nationals in a spring training game on Monday night, but at least Matt den Dekker made a dazzling catch.

Outside of an Ike Davis home run, the Mets didn't do a ton at the plate in their 6-4 spring training loss on Monday evening, but the highlight of the night was Matt den Dekker's home-run-robbing catch in center field. Here it is via MLB.com:

The Nationals scored three runs in the third innings, all of which were charged to Collin McHugh. The Nationals got a whole lot of bloop hits against McHugh and the Mets' pitching staff on the evening. After the game, Collins said McHugh looked fine despite the results.

Scott Rice and Greg Burke each threw a scoreless inning in the game, and Collins credited Paul DePodesta for earmarking both players early in the offseason as potential pieces to upgrade the Mets' bullpen for the upcoming season.

Collins also spoke highly of Wilmer Flores, who started the game at second base and was involved in turning two double plays. He was particularly happy that Flores showed up to camp a month ago, and he seems to think Flores can handle the position.
