Mets Morning News: Gee impresses, Marcum to miss next start, Hawkins slotted in for bullpen role

The Mets defeated the Braves yesterday, and Dillon Gee had himself an excellent outing. The full box score can be found here.

There was a bit of bad news involving Shaun Marcum, as it looks like he will miss his next start due to pain in his neck. He hasn't yet been ruled out of starting the season in the rotation, but there is certainly reason to worry now.

Chris Young opted out of his minor-league deal with the Nationals, and it wouldn't be a major shock if he ended up filling a slot in the Mets rotation soon. With Johan Santana and Shaun Marcum already looking like they'll be missing time this year, I could think of worse news to hear.

The bullpen picture became a little clearer yesterday, with Pedro Feliciano being asked if he would head to minor league camp to work on his velocity. At the moment, he's not certain if he'll accept the assignment or look for a major league bullpen job elsewhere.

LaTroy Hawkins won't be joining Feliciano in minor league camp if Pedro stays with the team, as he has been told he'll be added to the Opening Day roster.

There was good news on the Matt Den Dekker injury yesterday, as it doesn't appear that his broken wrist will require surgery to repair.

We started out the day by looking at the battle for the final four spots in the Mets bullpen.

Matthew continued his look back at TWIB with Tom Seaver's return to Shea.

Rob had an excellent piece on minor league park factors.

Finally, Brock recapped March 25 in Mets history by wishing Lee Mazzilli a happy birthday. It was also Tom Glavine's birthday, who we can thank for the pick that turned into Ike Davis.

Kyle Lohse finally got a team to give him a multi-year deal, although he didn't make Oliver Perez money. Brew Crew Ball doesn't think it's a good deal but says it's no Jeff Suppan contract, either.

Grant Brisbee reminds us of the value of spring training stats.
