Final Score: Mets 7, Dodgers 3 — Harvey human, Valdespin grand

"I dunno, I'm feeling kinda blurry tonight." - USA TODAY Sports

Matt Harvey looked the closest to vulnerable he has all year, but late rallies bailed him out, topped by a walkoff grand slam by Jordany Valdespin in the bottom of the tenth.

Matt Harvey Day was muted somewhat by a rare instance of the young righty looking slightly vulnerable. But in the end, the Mets found a way to celebrate this most precious of holidays anyway.

The Dodgers scratched out a run with two singles and an RBI groundout in the top of the first, making them the first team this season to reach base against Harvey in the first two innings. Harvey was his usual dominant self thereafter, and inflicted the first bit of damage on his opponent, Ted Lilly, when he hit a booming double to start the bottom of the fifth and came around to score. Unfortunately, Harvey found trouble the top of the sixth, giving up a two-run opposite field shot to Matt Kemp.

The Mets got one back on a Justin Turner RBI sac fly in the bottom half, and the bullpen managed to look almost impressive for once, but the bats were turned away until the bottom of the ninth. Pinch hitter Mike Baxter hit a leadoff double and scored the tying run on a two-out David Wright single. Then, in the tenth, they loaded the bases on a single and two walks (one intentional). Jordany Valdespin just needed a long fly ball to win it, but decided to go a little extra and belt one just over the right field fence for a walkoff grand slam. And yes, Todd Pratt let him touch all the bases.

Full recap to come.
