The Mets fell to the Phillies once again this afternoon at Citi Field, completing Philadelphia's three-game sweep. Although Cole Hamels walked six Mets in six innings, New York was only able to score one run against him in his start and didn't do anything against the Phillies' bullpen in the final three innings.
Jon Niese allowed just one run through six-and-two-thirds innings, but the Phillies' half of the seventh was extended by a dropped foul pop up by John Buck with nobody on base and two outs. Niese gave up back-to-back singles, and on came Scott Atchison, who allowed both inherited runners to score on a very long double by Ryan Howard. He then allowed Howard to score on a Chase Utley single. It was ugly. Brandon Lyon allowed a run in the eighth to extend the Phillies' lead to four. That was more than enough to seal the loss for the Mets.
