Mets set to promote outfielder Andrew Brown to the big league roster

This is Andrew Brown. Hi, Andrew Brown! - USA TODAY Sports

Brown, who has big league experience with the Cardinals and Rockies, was hitting .367/.440/.622 in 116 plate appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas.

According to Adam Rubin's sources, the Mets are planning to summon 28-year-old outfielder Andrew Brown from Triple-A Las Vegas prior to the start of this weekend's series with the Braves in Atlanta. Brown, a right-handed hitting lefty masher who has big league experience in St. Louis and Colorado, was signed by the Mets as a minor league free agent during the offseason. More of an outside shot to make the Opening Day roster, Brown struggled throughout spring training as he hit just .244/.261/.356 with a home run, and 17 strikeouts compared to 1 walk. However, the Triple-A vet got off to fantastic start in Las Vegas, putting up a scorching .367/.440/.622 line to go along with 13 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 home runs.

Before coming to the Mets, Brown spent time in the Cardinals and Rockies organizations. With the Rockies last season, he hit .232/.302/.429 with 5 home runs in 126 plate appearances before Colorado let him walk in the offseason as a minor league free agent. Brown is just a corner guy and not considered a great defender in the outfield, but his right handed power bat gives him a shot at providing the Mets' scuffling outfield a little help. Also of note: in the minors, Brown has played 239 games at first base, though he hasn't seen semi-regular time there since 2010. If he can still play there adequately, he could provide another option with which to spell Ike Davis against lefties.

At this time, there's no word on a corresponding roster move. However, Collin Cowgill and Marlon Byrd would seem to be the most obvious choices for demotion.
