Final Score: Reds 7, Mets 4 — Harvey Day spoiled as Mets come apart late

The Reds completed a three-game sweep of the Mets on Wednesday afternoon, aided by questionable defense and a human Matt Harvey.

Matt Harvey Day was spoiled this afternoon at Citi Field as the Mets dropped their third straight to the Cincinnati Reds, and fourth of their last five games, 7-4. Harvey had decent stuff but was far from his best. He gave up a home run to Joey Votto, four hits to Zack Cozart, and a total of four runs on nine hits in six and a third innings. The Mets' offense responded though, led by Rick Ankiel, who had two doubles and a triple, and Daniel Murphy, who went 3-for-4 from the lead off spot.

The game was tied at four until the top half of the ninth when, with runners on first and third, Brandon Phillips hit a ball down the first base line that Ike Davis watched kick up chalk and head into right field. Ike presumably thought the ball would be called foul and elected not to glove it. Ike had a decent day at the plate with a couple of walks a deep fly out to center field, but that was his second questionable play in the field. In a cruel twist of fate, Keith Hernandez was not in the booth to weigh in.

This was a tough loss and made all the worse because we are now so far from Harvey Day.
