In yesterday's game against the Reds, the demoralized Ike Davis added to what has been an abysmal first half of the season for him. As many fans know late in yesterday afternoon's game Davis made a poor error of judgement by assuming a routine ground ball was going to go foul but instead stayed in play which cost the Mets the game.
It is one thing to be struggling at the plate but when it starts to affect your defense that is a serious problem. Just by watching the games you can tell Ike Davis is frustrated and lacking confidence in himself. At this point there are no signs that he can stay up in the majors and the only option for him is to get sent down.
Watching the post game interview it seemed like he wants to go to Vegas and try to find himself again. Davis has had the support of his teammates who want him to stay up although he is regressing by the day. But yesterday Davis (and I could not find the direct quote so I will paraphrase) said to the media in a upset and demoralized manner that his teammates can no longer vouch for him to management that they need to let Alderson do what he feels is best for him. It seemed as if Davis is ready to head down to Vegas and does not want to hurt the already struggling Mets. There has been a report that Ike could be sent down early next week.
Who do you think will take Ike's place Josh Satin, Zack Lutz, or will they surprise us and bring up prospect Wilmer Flores? At this point any of these guys will be better than what Ike is giving you now.
