You may be forgiven for thinking this was an off day for the Mets, but the Amazin's are playing an exhibition game against New Jersey's own Weehawken High School. Collin McHugh gets the spot start.
Collin McHugh vs. Sal Mendez
McHugh is 0-0 with a 12.00 ERA this year.
Couldn't find any stats on Mendez, but here's this:
6-4, 190, P: Weehawken may not be known as a baseball hot-bed, but this hard-throwing lefty has made the state and MLB scouts take notice. Mendez's fastball has been clocked at 90 MPH and normally sits in the high 80s and has been his best pitch, but he also has stellar control along with a developing slider and change-up. Mendez is committed to Howard College, a junior college in Texas, but don't be surprised to hear his name selected in June's MLB Draft.
1. Daniel Murphy 2B
2. Rick Ankiel CF
3. David Wright 3B
4. Ike Davis 1B
5. Lucas Duda LF
6. Anthony Recker C
7. Marlon Byrd RF
8. Justin Turner SS
9. Collin McHugh P
Looks like Terry's playing to win!
Couldn't find any info on Weehawken's lineup, can anyone help me out?
No TV coverage outside of the local Weehawken market AFAIK, so I will be live-blogging the game from this iPad I "borrowed" from my boss.
I know we have trouble with lefties, but I am confident that even the 2013 Mets can defeat a mediocre high school club. Let's Go Mets!
