Mets Player Performance Meter: Position Players, Week 10

USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost three of four games, but a few of their hitters were actually pretty good over that span. The rest were not.

As poorly as the Mets played against the Marlins, their hitters weren't all terrible over the last week. Their 10-run blowout win against the Washington Nationals was surely the highlight. For the season, however, they're down to 3.98 runs scored per game, which ranks 10th in the National League.

This week's meter covers the four games the Mets played between June 3 and June 9.

Player Last Week This Week Comment
Rick Ankiel, OF More than a month after the Mets signed him, Ankiel was designated for assignment as he continued to strike out at an alarming clip.
Mike Baxter, OF He didn't get on base in the few opportunities he had, and he's been sent to Las Vegas.
John Buck, C To his credit, Buck caught all twenty innings of Saturday's loss, but he had a very rough go of it at the plate in his two starts this week.
Marlon Byrd, OF With a couple of home runs and a .385 OBP, Byrd was one of the team's best hitters for the week.
Ike Davis, 1B For the second straight year, Davis was terrible through the first two-plus months of the season. This time, he got demoted to the minors.
Lucas Duda, LF His .387 OPS was Ike-esque.
Juan Lagares, OF With a .765 OPS and a hell of a throw from center field to throw out a runner at home plate, this was his best week since joining the Mets.
Daniel Murphy, 2B Murphy hit a home run and got on base at a decent clip but made a big error in the twenty-inning loss on Saturday.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis, OF -- He's back, but he'll get a pass on the down arrow after going just 0-for-1 since replacing Ankiel.
Omar Quintanilla, SS A .701 OPS in four games may not sound like much, but that's not terrible for a shortstop.
Anthony Recker, C In his busiest week as a Met, Recker didn't hit much at all.
Ruben Tejada, SS There hasn't been much of an update on Tejada, who hit the DL late last week with a leg injury.
Justin Turner, IF The Mets will take a .286/.375/.429 slash line out of their utility man.
Jordany Valdespin, OF In very, very limited playing time, he had a 1.000 OPS.
David Wright, 3B There's David Wright, and then there's the rest of the team's lineup. It's always good to see him hitting as well as he can.
