Hallo AA folks. Lousy Braves fan here, seeking local advice. Team allegiances aside, I'm also an avid ballpark traveler. I've got my sights set on Citi Field on June 30th, and I'm thinking about making a day trip into Queens to catch the day game, and then be back at LaGuardia and on my way back to Atlanta in the same day. Obviously, the success of this trip is completely dependent on flight availability as I play the whole standby game on Jeff Francoeur's official flight partner, but if all goes well and according to plan, I get into New York in the early AM, enjoy a game, get a David Wright bobblehead, and be out of everyone's hair in the span of less than twelve hours. Citi Field would be #25 on the list of MLB ballparks for me. And for at least one afternoon, I can root with the home team, as it will be the Nationals in town that I'd like to see held down in the standings.
But anyway, I have but a small inquiry that I would like to know if any locals could help me out with. I've tried some general terms; "visitor, tourist, restaurant, traveler" and come up pretty dry in searching for any possibly visitor posts or guides in AA's archives. I've even perused through Google street view in the area surrounding Citi Field, and I know that definitively if I ever needed a muffler or a new windshield, I could always piggyback such needs with a Mets game.
All I really want to know is, where can I get one decent meal around the ballpark? Is there really anything other than McFadden's around Citi Field? I'm not trying to be patronizing or condescending in the least bit, because I'm looking at Gmaps and such, and finding absolutely no luck, or street views for places that are outdated, or are serving food from holes in the sidewalks or mounds of dirt. My rationale is that I'm in town for just a few hours, and sure I know that Citi's got a Shake Shack, but I'd still prefer to enjoy at least one meal outside of the confines of a ballpark.
I'll be on foot and don't really have the time to train it to anywhere before the game, and honestly to improve my chances of getting home successfully, I'm likely to beeline right back to LGA as soon as the game is over, so I don't really have the time to train it to anywhere after the game. Yes, I know how restrictive my criteria is. So one decent meal before the game is what I'm looking for; if my only option is like McFadden's, then McFadden's it is, but I figure if there's anyone to help me find a possible alternative, it's Mets fans.
For what it's worth, I'm an admirer of the AA community, and it's disposition for some ironic dark humor. I've participated in both Dickeyface contests, and we were friends for about two minutes in that one year, where you guys were sick of Jeff Francoeur, and I made FAILCOEUR shirts in Mets colors for the two people who bought them. Anyway, any help in this inquiry would be much appreciated, so thank you guys in advance for your help.
