Terry Collins was appointed by Sandy Alderson to take over the managerial reigns in November 2010 signing a two-year deal with a team option for 2013 that was picked up in 2011. Since his tenure here with the Mets they have finished fourth place in each of the seasons he has been here and the team is currently in fourth place now. Many Mets fans including myself wonder whether Collins will return to Citi Field or will someone else step into the reigns.
For Collins it was his first time back in the biggs since 1999 with the California Angels when he had to re-sign with 29 games left after players had petitioned for him to leave due the overbearing pressure. Collins was even know to be the blame of the Astros 1996 collapse in which they missed the playoffs because of this mentality. When Collins came to the Mets after spending sometime coaching in the minors he learned that he had to change. Watching Collins over the last few years he has brought a more laid back attitude but from time to time reverts back to his old ways (not saying that its a bad thing because the mets need it).
Although the Mets have not been .500 since Collins tenure it is hard to gage whether he can make the mets a playoff team. When you look at it, he came into a situation in which the Mets were planning to rebuild and not spend a great deal of money in free-agency. It was expected for the Mets to lose as they needed to clean up the mess Omar Minaya left.
On the other hand once again Collins has failed to make the playoffs despite having winning records with the Astros and Angels. If the Mets do get the talent to become better will Collins be able to handle it because he botched it with the Astros who had talented players.
It comes down to what Alderson decides to do and if there is manager out there who can make the team consistently good in the coming years.
Do you think Collins will get another shot or do you think that at this season is the end of the road for Terry as manager?
