Young Jr is playing well right now and has hit .364/.417/.500 in five games played. It's a nice start but will it be enough to put him in the OF for good?
I believe he would be a great fit as he's fast, has versatility in the field, and is a switch hitter. The Mets haven't had a true leadoff hitter since Jose Reyes. For now, he's given a jolt to an offense that was in great need of one.
If this experiment with Young ends up being successful, Sandy Alderson is one step closer to having the type of outfield he needs. Young could provide the speed and versatility at the top of the lineup the Mets haven't had in quite some time. That would allow Alderson to explore the trade market for a proven power bat.
I just hope he keeps it up. We'll see what happens.
