Mets Morning News: Mets win in five-hour affair, Gonzalez Germen called up, Brandon Nimmo to Citi Field

New York Mets related news and links for the second day of July, 2013

The Mets played a very long game against the Diamondbacks yesterday, and luckily managed to come out on top. Byrd probably shouldn't have been the word (and the game should have been far shorter because of it), but sometimes Luis Castillo Miguel Montero happens. The full box score from the five hour affair can be found here.

The Mets have called up Gonzalez Germen, and will make a corresponding roster move at some point today to make room for him. If you forced me to make a guess here, I'd imagine Jordany Valdespin is on his way to Vegas.

The Futures Game at Citi Field will now feature a trio of Mets prospects. Noah Syndergaard and Rafael Montero were both confirmed previously, but they'll now be joined by Brandon Nimmo.

Yesterday at AA

As always, Monday brought us the weekly performance meters for both position players and pitchers.

July 1 in New York Mets history brought us a home run from Dwight Gooden. I feel like this would be an appropriate spot for a soundbite from the Chappelle Show, but I'll let you make that connection for yourself.

Around Baseball

Bryce Harper is back with the Nationals, and he homered on the second pitch he saw in their 10-5 win.

The Marlins managed a 4-0 win. I just double checked, and that isn't a typo.

Andy Pettitte is now the Yankees' all-time strikeout leader. Think he gets an asterisk from most Yankee fans due to the fact that he's an admitted PED user?

The Astros. Oh, the Astros.

If you're anything like me, you never get tired of reading all things Jeff Francoeur. You're welcome. You're welcome again.
