Ike Davis will reportedly join Mets in Milwaukee on Friday

USA TODAY Sports

After spending a few weeks in Triple-A Las Vegas, Ike Davis will reportedly rejoin the Mets on Friday.

The Mets will recall Ike Davis before their series opener in Milwaukee on Friday night, according to ESPN New York. Davis was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas on June 9 after an absolutely dreadful start to the season.

Since his demotion, Davis has hit .293/.424/.667 with 7 home runs for the 51s. It's clear that he's overqualified for that level of baseball, but the Mets clearly hope to figure out whether or not Davis is their first baseman of the future.

In 1,541 career plate appearances with the Mets, Davis has hit .239/.323/.433 with a .329 wOBA and 107 wRC+. First base isn't the powerhouse position it used to be across the big leagues, but Davis's numbers have still been below league average at the position.

Josh Satin has played very well in Davis's place, but Davis will likely get the lion's share of playing time at first base. Even if the players are platooned, the grand majority of pitchers are right-handed, which works in Davis's favor.

There's no word yet on who the Mets will demote to make room for Davis, though the team is currently carrying eight relief pitchers and six outfielders. Gonzalez Germen has not pitched since he was recalled, which might be a sign Terry Collins will never use him but could work in his favor since he's a fresh arm heading into Milwaukee. If the Mets opt to demote a position player, Jordany Valdespin would appear to be next on the team's long list of demotions based solely on his lack of performance this year.
