New York Mets related news and links for Tuesday, July 9, 2013

The 2013 Mets really don't seem to care about those of us that enjoy sleep, taking part their 16th extra inning game this season and the 4th that has reached 15 innings or more. They eventually won 4-3 in the 16th, long after a I had passed out. The full boxscore can be found here.

Beyond the 5 hour and 26 minute victory, Mets fans had a bit more to read about and smile. Two prospects were selected in the BA midseason top 50 list, with both key pieces of the R.A. Dickey trade ending up in the top 25. Wilmer Flores, Cesar Puello, and Rafael Montero all missed the list.

David Wright chose his team for the home run derby at Citi Field, the full squads can be found here.

Around Baseball

The Mets weren't the only team in the division to play extras yesterday, as the Braves and Marlins played 14. The Braves won that game 7-1, and no, that isn't a typo. I had to double check that score when I saw it though, as 7-1 just doesn't seem like the type of score a 14-inning game should produce.

The Nats and Phillies only needed nine to get their game finished, with the Phillies winning 3-2.

So Carlos Gomez can play...

The Mets didn't manage to get anything in return for Scott Hairston last summer, but the Cubs found a taker for him this year.
