Jenrry Mejia goes to the mound this evening against the Padres where he's set to face off against erratic righty Edinson Volquez. Carson Cistulli wrote about Mejia in advance of his start tonight at Fangraphs. Pretty excellent comparison in there.

Also important tonight: the long awaited debut of Travis d'Arnaud, who'll take over the reins behind the plate with John Buck on paternity leave.

Gonzalez Germen has been very effective in a limited sample out of the Mets' pen and Jorge Castillo looked a little further into his background. The Mets seem to be having a bit of success with older international free agent signings. The new market inefficiency, perhaps?

It sounds like Wilmer Flores is ready to return to the Mets' lineup this evening. There's some potentially bad news on Jeremy Hefner, though. The righthander will be going for a second opinion and the Mets are worried he may need Tommy John surgery.

Noah Syndergaard last night against the New Britain Rock Cats...WOW. He tossed five shutout innings (the Mets are limiting him to 5 per start down the stretch), allowing just 3 hits, and striking out a career high 10. Meanwhile, coming off 7 shutout innings of his own on Thursday night, Rafael Montero landed in the #1 spot on Baseball America's prospect hot sheet (d'Arnaud was listed "in the team photo".
