Mets Morning News: A watched Matsuzaka start never ends (you do boil though)

In which, time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping, into the future

Meet the Mets

So it just felt like last night's game took four hours right? No, it actually took four hours? Okay then.

If you don't already feel sufficiently chastened for your viewing choice, here is a non-comprehensive list of things you could have in the time you spent watching Daisuke Matsuzaka pitch last night:

- Prepare and roast a small chicken

- Finish Haruki Murakami's short novel, After Dark (which I highly recommend)

- Listen to all of Kiss's Alive II (which I do not necessarily recommend)

- Knit a child's hat.

- Watch all of Tuesday's game, basically.

In case you have bleached the memory of last night's from your brain with bourbon (which I definitely recommend), Wilmer Flores made his major league debut at second base. From Twitter reports, it went about how you would expect. Why don't people listen to me?

Okay, that's enough about last night's game. Let's talk more about Jon Niese's start on Tuesday. That was fun. Take it away, Greg Prince.

The resurgence of Jon Niese doesn't make Ted Berg's list of 16 reasons being a Mets fan isn't so bad, but Shake Shack does. No lines, no waiting for September games too!

Matt den Dekker should make his debut this afternoon against the Phillies, and the Star-Ledger has a brief profile of the glove-first center fielder.

Vic Black is reportedly the player-to-be-named-later in the Mets trade with the Pirates. He will have to clear waivers before this is officially announced. I hope he does, if only so we can get a dude named "Vic Black" in the bullpen as soon as possible(also, he's a pretty interesing arm).

Yesterday at AA

We premiered Episode 32 of Amazin' Avenue Audio, featuring Jason Parks of Baseball Prospectus talking about new Met prospect Dilson Herrera, and Rob and Jeffrey being depressed about Matt Harvey

With the Harvey injury news, Chris McShane looked at the free agent market for starting pitchers. Chris also wrote about Mets free agent surprises in honor of Marlon Byrd's 2013 campaign.

Steve Sypa took a closer look at Dilson Herrera.

Around the NL East

The Good Phight waxed philosophical in their recap of last night's action. Meaningless games in August do lend themselves to such.

The Nats beat the Marlins in a rain-soaked tussle. You can check out recaps from Federal Baseball and Fish Stripes.

And Talking Chop offers a sacrifice to the BABIP lord after their win in the "Battle of Problematic Mascots."

Around MLB

Here's all of Wednesday's action in one handy dandy scoreboard. Of particular note: Marlon Byrd punctuated his Pirates debut with a flourish.

You know, for all the Reds players who might have beef with the Cincinnati media, Brandon Phillips is probably not one of them. Nice leadership by Dusty Baker there as well.

The Dodgers beat the Cubs despite Don Mattingly benching Yasiel Puig again. Every time this happens, I am going to link to the only proper response.

And Marc Normandin wonders what the future holds for the Halos over at Sports on Earth.
