The Mets have been burned by free agency acquisitions more often than not. Like most, I don't believe this roster is capable of contending next season and moves need to be made. Hopefully, the "bigger" moves are made via trade. Sandy Alderson has been nothing but effective, definitive with trades. If it's not the best or right deal, there won't be one. He's approached free agency the same with lesser success aside from Marlon Byrd.
If the Mets are going to compete next season it needs to be via trades. The one I consider most likely could be a deal with the Angels for Howie Kendrick and Mark Trumbo. Kendrick is consistent on offense, almost same stats the last five seasons. He'll be 30 next season so you can hope for similar production for a few more seasons. Getting Kendrick may cost the Mets Daniel Murphy or Murphy may move to another position. Ideally the Mets include Ike Davis and/or Lucas Duda, he/they can DH or play 1B when Albert Pujols DHs or gets the day off. Not sure Angels would be interested in one or either considering Trumbo produces like the Mets wish Ike and Duda would. You never know though. Also, Ike is 26, Trumbo is 27 and Duda is 27.
What are y'all's thoughts? This may not be the direction the Mets go, but I hope they make at least one deal to acquire multiple proven starters. I just assume this deal would likely cost the Mets less than most trades they could make for multiple starters. I could be wrong, I hope I am. That's why I'm curious to hear y'all's thoughts. Do me a favor and be open-minded, I'm just trying to get a ball rolling so don't rip apart this trade proposal, feel free to criticise or explain why it wouldn't work, but also offer your ideas of similar deals like this the Mets could/should make. Please and thank you.
