Mets Morning News: Harvey takes on troll, CBS takes on Bosch

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Your Monday morning dose of of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links.

Meet the Mets

Mike Petriello at FanGraphs looks at possible reasons why the Mets might not sign Stephen Drew this winter, despite the player and the club being such a good match for each other.

Meanwhile, Drew's agent Scott Boras is insisting that there are "five or six" teams that are actively talking about signing Drew despite the supposed lack of interest from teams other than the Mets and Red Sox.

Danny Abriano at Rising Apple critiques a Yahoo! Sports 2014 Mets preview. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo!, the Amazins are the 27th best team in MLB despite drastically improving their outfield and adding Bartolo Colon to the pitching staff. Abriano argues that ERA and WHIP might be a better indication of pitching skill than BMI.

Matt Harvey politely dealt with a Twitter troll.

Around MLB

On Sunday night, CBS aired a 60 Minutes segment in which Tony Bosch, Bud Selig and MLB COO Rob Manfred were interviewed. Among other things, we learned that a threat on Bosch's life was allegedly made by an associate of Alex Rodriguez.

With Rodriguez possibly being suspended for the entire 2014 season, it looks like Kelly Johnson could start at third base for the Yankees this season.

Chone Figgins is interested in returning to MLB this season. Johnny Damon is also looking to return to the bigs.

Rangers pitcher Derek Holland says his recent knee injury was caused by his dog tripping him up on a flight of stairs. Hopefully this won't cause dog ownership to become an issue in contract negotiations.

Yesterday at AA

It's Kevin Mitchell's birthday today! The slugger played a key part on the 1986 Mets World Series championship team before being shipped to the Padres in exchange for Kevin McReynolds and winning the NL MVP award with the Giants in 1989.
