It's That Time Again: AARGH 2014

USA TODAY Sports

Yes, friends, it's that time again. The chance to see if your fellow Amazin' Avenue posters are actually real people that can operate (semi)normally within the bounds out normal society is here! In the next few weeks, we'll have our third annual AARGH, the Amazin' Avenue Regional Gathering Here. What exactly does that entail? Based on data collected in the past:

  • Drinking beer
  • Bemoaning the state of the Mets, past, present, and future
  • Drinking beer
  • Getting excited at our Minor Leaguers and the fact that hope springs eternal
  • Blaming Beltran
  • Praising Dickey
  • Drinking beer

We're in our planning stages right now, and as such, it's important to hear your feedback. Do you want to come and shoot the breeze with some of the most demented minds in baseball this side of Roosevelt Avenue? When and where?

To accommodate the most amount of people, we need to choose a Saturday sometime between now and the start of Spring Training. We still have most of January and all of February to choose from, so finding the optimal date for the greatest amount of people shouldn't be a problem. Generally speaking, past AARGHs haven't had a concrete start time, with people planning on getting to the venue at 7 PM or so and dragging themselves in anytime afterward.

The venue is the next question. In the past, we've had success at The Ginger Man (appropriately named vis-a-vis Amazin' Avenue and players we generally like and dislike), a bar on E 36th Street. I can't say I had any problems with the place- it's spacious enough, the have a good beer menu, they have snack/dinner food if you're hungry- but we aren't necessarily beholden to them. If you know a better place for whatever reason, let us know. If the vast majority of RSVPs agree with your choice of venue, we can go AARGH there instead.

With these Amazin' Avenue "class trips", we've had decent turnouts in the past, and I've met more than a few posters and site contributors (about 10 different people on various occasions?). Nothing against the people I've already met (some on multiple occasions), but I'd also like to see some new faces. Come on down. Hide your kids, possibly bring your wife (I know my girlfriend would be thoroughly lost with some of our stat frauding, but not all women dislike sports, evidenced by AA's strong female contingent), the more the merrier. At the end of the day, it's an excuse to get out, drink a little (optional) and engage in educated baseball discussion in real time (optional).
