Earlier today Terry expressed his curiosity on batting the pitcher ninth and actually went through with it in his line up. I think this is a vry dumb idea...which by now has become well expected of this team.
For a team without ONE lead off hitter, they now want to have TWO back to back? This would be hurting Wright and Grandy's rbi opportunities. You cant have two guys with a 300 obp following the pitchers spot. Thats essentially 3 straight outs in a row that will leave the middle of the order up with either 2 outs or leading off the innings. At least if they bat Lagares 8th, there will be times where he gets pitched around to get to the pitchers spot.
Ironically, I thought this would have been the right thing to do when we had both Reyes and Castillo in the lineup. Castillo had a good Obp but should have never batter 2nd behind Reyes because he never hit the ball far enough (and OFs playing so shallow) to let Reyes go multiple bases on a hit. Reyes could score Castillo from first base with a hit to the wall but never the other way around. And Reyes leading off the game and getting the most abats was key therefore the perfect place for Castillo would have been 9th.
