since it looks like there is a large amount of smoke around Didi i thought i would write what little i know. i have been reading alot about him and even tried to ask D-back fans about him. but they were D-bags and did not offer any substantive information. this is what i have come up with so far. the SABR people did not like him and viewed him as a utility player. but Towers was swayed by one scout who said this guy is legit and compared Didi Gregorius to Derek Jeter. it looked like Towers was a genius when Trevor Bauer struggled and DIdi came up and hit great but that adulation did not last.
first half .275/.341/.403 and then 2nd half .207/.314/.314. Gregorius can't hit LHP pitching, vs LHP as LHB .200/.267/.245 .512 OPS but hit RHP ok, vs RHP as LHB .275/.359/.429 .789 OPS. is it because some guys can't hit the same side at all like Ike Davis or is it something more. from what i read i think pitchers figured out he can't hit the inside pitch. that's why lefty's had so much success with him. and as soon as that got out RHP started throwing inside and doing the same thing LHP do naturally to LHH. he might adjust back and hit that inside pitch and he might not only time will tell. also he gets a little pull happy and flys out too much ground ball 37.1% flyball 41.9%. and he was hit square in the head by a 93-Mph last season and did not suffer a concussion. but was placed on the 7-day concussion DL. take from that what u will.
now for the speed Didi is fast he's not E.Young fast but he is fast. but for some reason he can't steal bases. in his MiLB career he has just 40 stolen bases in 70 attempts. that's because he dose not get good jumps from pitchers. maybe we should bring in Rickey Henderson to teach him a thing or 2 like we did with Jose Reyes. but he is a good base runner going 1st to 3rd, scoring on a sac fly and things like that. now for his glove it is from what i have read a sight to behold. he has an absolute cannon for an arm that allows him to make plays other SS just can't. but it is a cannon arm not a sniper like Jose Reyes had. he bounces more balls then u would like but still has a plus arm. he has great range and makes some spectacular plays but he also makes some mistakes and bobbles balls he should put in his glove with ease.
after the 2012 season was over he was ranked the 80th best prospect by baseball america.
