The Mets have traded Ike Davis to the Pirates, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish. A career .241/.334/.433 hiters, the 27-year old Davis struggled mightily over long stretches in each of the past couple of seasons. The Mets tried to trade either Davis or Lucas Duda all winter but had been said to prefer Duda.
There's no word yet on who the Mets have received from the Pirates, though Cotillo reports the team will receive one or two prospects. The two teams made a deal last summer, too, when the Mets sent John Buck and Marlon Byrd to Pittsburgh in return for Vic Black and Dilson Herrera.
Now, the Mets' first base situation is resolved, at least in the short term. Lucas Duda and Josh Satin figure to platoon at the position for the foreseeable future. Davis had an early highlight for the Mets, hitting a walk-off grand slam against the Reds on opening weekend, but Lucas Duda was named the team's starting first baseman shortly afterwards.
