what to do with Murphy

i remember last year i had an argument with a fellow Mets fans about Murphy being a top 10 2B. he said ya maybe right now but when Jedd Gyorko, Jonathan Schoop, Nick Franklin, Jason Kipnis get here Murphy will be bottom 10. they were all hot high ranked 2B prospects tearing up AAA. ya how are they all doing now (Jedd Gyorko .162/.213/.270 in 221-PA)(Jonathan Schoop .222/.270/.347 in 232-PA)(Nick Franklin .128/.192/.170 in 52-PA)(Jason Kipnis .241/.325/.337 in 212-PA). the jump from AAA to MLB is the most difficult jump and alot of players fall and don't make it here. they are called prospects for a reason sometimes u strike gold and sometimes u strike lead. dealing Murphy for prospects does not mean we will just be getting a younger Murphy. the guys we trade for Murphy may never play 1 MLB game.

the Mets need to start winning again we need more proven MLB players not more prospects. Murphy is proven MLB player and has proven he can hit in New York. we need to add to this offense not subtract from it. if the Mets are going to compete for the next 5 years Murphy must stay. the Mets need more player in their prime not kids who may or may not be MLB players learning on the job. this is Murphy in his prime and a player in his prime usually goes from 28-34 before age causes regression. even with Murphy regression i don't expect it to be that drastic. players with great speed regress with that speed tool the earliest due to age. followed by power hitters who lose some pop. then the average starts to dip. the last thing to go is the eye at the plate. a player like Murphy who hits to all fields and does not strike out alot with his skill set should age relativity well. he is also a hitter that has thrived in the big ball park with the big gaps and has not been afected by it like alot of other players. pitchers prime starts earlier because the lose velo. next year Harvey, Niese. Wheeler will also be in their prime seasons. we need more hitters that we can count on not less. he should be signed to a 5 year 60-million dollar extension. that will buy out that last year of arbitration and take him to his age 35 season.
