Although Jon Niese allowed a home run to begin the game and was pulled in the first inning after getting hit by a line drive, the Mets beat Yu Darvish and the Rangers at Citi Field on Independence Day. Carlos Torres played a huge part in the win, as he took over for Niese and threw 4.2 innings of unexpected relief. He gave up two runs, but his was a commendable effort.
At the plate, the Mets scored three in the first on a Bobby Abreu single and a two-run home run by Lucas Duda. Eric Campbell tacked on a fourth run in the fourth, but after Texas tied the game at four against Jeurys Familia, it was Travis d'Arnaud who had the big hit: a two-run double in the eighth.
Nice job by MetsFan4Decades; her effort in the GameThread embiggens us all.
