The Mets opened a four-game series with the Giants with a loss, as they had a very hard time hitting against Ryan Vogelsong. They managed just two hits in the game, one of which was a Lucas Duda home run, his twentieth of the season.
Jon Niese threw eight-plus innings and threw just 87 pitches, but he gave up five runs on nine hits in the process. He allowed two runs in the second and three runs in the seventh and struck out four without issuing any walks. His was not a typical pitching stat line.
