Do you believe in Jacob DeGrom?

Much has been said on the topic of next year's starting rotation. In terms of candidates (realistic to non-realistic), the following exist in the organization.

  1. Matt Harvey
  2. Jonathan Niese
  3. Zack Wheeler
  4. Bartolo Colon
  5. Dillon Gee
  6. Jacob DeGrom
  7. Noah Syndergaard
  8. Rafael Montero
  9. Jeremy Hefner
  10. Steven Matz
  11. Jenrry Mejia
I left off Daisuke because he's not guaranteed to be in the organization next year, but he has certainly proven to be a viable option for this Mets team, starting or relieving. Although Jenrry Mejia is currently closing for the Mets, I've read that some people in the organization believe that he can still start. I don't share that opinion and nor do I believe that Jeremy Hefner is ticketed to be anything but Spring Training fodder for the Carlos Torres role.
In my opinion, the only people pushing for spots next year in a big way are the following:
  1. Matt Harvey
  2. Jonathan Niese
  3. Zack Wheeler
  4. Bartolo Colon
  5. Dillon Gee
  6. Jacob DeGrom
  7. Noah Syndergaard
The hope in my opinion is that we find a taker for Bartolo Colon in the next two months or during the offseason because he shouldn't be blocking the way for any of our young "up-and-coming" starters. Therefore, the question becomes, "Who gets bumped for Noah?" And really, this was not a question before this year began because Jacob DeGrom was not supposed to be the pitcher we've seen this year. So that begs the question, "Do you believe in Jacob DeGrom?" Because, if you don't, you have to hold onto Noah Syndergaard. If you don't, you can't dangle Syndergaard and Montero in trades this winter. If you do believe in Jacob DeGrom, then you can potentially include Syndergaard and/or Montero in a deal for a Stanton or a Tulowitzki. The bottom line is that it's not likely that we see Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, Jacob DeGrom, and Noah Syndergaard in the same rotation because it represents a roster redundancy. Sandy Alderson's a smart baseball guy and he knows that Syndergaard's the most tradable of those four, but once again, he can't trade Syndergaard if he doesn't believe in DeGrom because then the rotation is Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Gee, and Syndergaard.
On the other hand, you could try and trade Gee or Niese, but trading Niese leaves you with no lefties and Gee likely needs to be packaged with other players to get true value back. That's what spurs the question on in my opinion.
Leave your opinions in the comments! Definitely want to hear what other people are thinking on this.
