Mets 40 man roster with additional useful info 2015 offseason

Reviving this series for the offseason, at least that is the plan. With the recent removal of Recker, Tovar (and EYjr) and the addition of Josh Smoker the Mets head into free agency with 37 players on the 40 man roster. The Mets have 4 spots to work with because Jenrry Mejia does not count towards the 40 total while suspended. Most of the moves in the coming two weeks will be removing players to make room to protect minor leaguers from the rule 5 draft. (Nimmo and Gsellman seem to be the only two they HAVE to make room for, tho there is a case for a couple others) While free agency seems to develop later we could see a rouge early signing, but thankfully the Mets cannot sign Michael Cuddyer a second time... full off-season calendar detailed here.

Two helpful sources of this info are Cot's Contracts and TPG Mets and both sites are recommended for additional info. Service time in years & days (through 2015 season) with 172 days equaling a full season.

Eric Young Jr. 5.052 0 remain Arb 3 This is not a joke, but it is funny... or sad... temporary tho

The Mets have just 5 players under contract, but they have 11 players eligible for arbitration so the full payroll picture will not be clear until those hearings in February.

Despite his nomadic season Kirk N. lost just 11 days of service time off a whole season. Still pre-arb for 2016 so he could serve in a bench OF role just fine.

I can see the Mets sending Josh Edgin and Kevin Plawecki to AAA for small amounts of time in 2016 just to delay their free agency or arbitration. By shaving 16 days off Edgin's service time they would gain an additional year of him under arbitration. And not that a backup catcher makes a ton in arbitration, but a few weeks in AAA would avoid super 2 for Plawecki.
