Bartolo Colon had his worst start of the year, allowing nine runs on eleven hits in four-and-one-third innings, and the Mets didn't score at all as they were beaten by the Cardinals. After Colon's departure, Jack Leathersich, Sean Gilmartin, and Carlos Torres combined for four-and-two-thirds scoreless, not that it really mattered. The Mets had just four hits, two of which belonged to Lucas Duda.
Throw in the Yankees' loss to the Nationals, and the Mets fell out of first place in the National League East for the first time in a while.
