There was a lot to like in Matt Harvey's start. He struck out eleven, pitched eight innings, and gave up only six hits. Indeed, he looked nothing short of masterful his first time through the Marlins order. However, in the top of the fourth, Dee Gordon and Martin Prado got on with a bunt and a walk, and Justin Bour hit an agonizingly-close-to-being-just-a-long-strike homer down the right field line to give the Marlins a lead they never surrendered. That being said, the following inning, Martin Prado's RBI single provided some insurance that proved critical as the game went on.
The Mets offense was mostly quiet against Dan Haren. Lucas Duda and Curtis Granderson both hit solo homers in the fourth and sixth innings respectively to keep the Amazins in it. In the ninth, Ruben Tejada led off with a hit and scored on a Daniel Murphy bloop single to left, but Marlins closer A.J. Ramos struck out Michael Cuddyer and induced a groundout from Wilmer Flores to end a very painful night for Mets fans.
