The Las Vegas 51s placed RHP Matt Bowman on the seven-day disabled list with an undisclosed injury. Bowman last pitched on Friday, May 1st, in a 4-3 victory over the Reno Aces, arguably the best game he pitched this season. He pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and one strike out. The Princeton grad has scuffled a bit this season, posting a 7.30 ERA in 24.2 innings (five starts). In 36.1 innings (6 starts, 7 appearances) with Las Vegas last season, he posted a 3.47 ERA.
The most notable difference between his limited time this season and last season is the amount of hard contact he is giving up. More and more balls hit into the outfield are being hit for home runs, as evidenced by his HR/OFB rates. In 153 plate appearances against him in 2014, his HR/OFB rate was a 5.9%; in 114 plate appearances this season, it has ballooned to a 29.4%. As such, batters have posted a .202 ISO against Bowman this season, as compared to a .063 last year.
