The Mets beat the Phillies 9-4 at Citi Field this evening. Matt Harvey dazzled early but struggled a bit later in his start, and he allowed four runs in six-and-one-third innings despite striking out nine and walking just one. But the Mets never trailed in the game, as they scored three runs in the second—two of them on an inside-the-park home run from Ruben Tejada—and three more in the third—two of them on a Michael Conforto opposite-field home run. They tacked on a run in the fifth, one more in the seventh, and topped off their scoring on a laser beam home run from Yoenis Cespedes in the eighth.
The bullpen held up just fine, too. Sean Gilmartin, Tyler Clippard, and Addison Reed combined for two-and-two-thirds innings of scoreless relief.
