The Mets mustered just two runs against Nationals ace Max Scherzer, but that's all the run support Noah Syndergaard needed to pitch the Mets to a 2-0 victory. The broad-shouldered, blond beast from Texas held Washington to five hits in his seven innings, striking out 10 and walking none.
As good as Thor was, the Mets' bullpen may have been better. Addison Reed struck out two in a perfect eighth, and Jeurys Familia nailed things down with one strikeout in a perfect ninth for his 13th save of the season.
Curtis Granderson welcomed Scherzer back to Citi Field with a home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the first. The leadoff man walked in his next two plate appearances and singled in the eighth, reaching base each time up and raising his OPS by 47 points (from .694 to .741) in the game. Michael Conforto homered in the third to finish the scoring for the night.
