Once again Matt Harvey looked strong through three innings, and once again the wheels fell off in the fourth as the Nationals topped the Mets 7-4 on Tuesday night. Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon hit back-to-back solo homers in that fourth frame, and Daniel Murphy followed an inning later with a two-run bomb of his own. Harvey needed a smooth barehanded play on a ball the pitcher redirected to get out of the fifth having surrendered five earned runs and eight hits. He walked two, struck out one, and was pulled after 84 pitches.
Harvey's counterpart Stephen Strasburg struck out 11 Mets in 6.2 innings. Asdrubal Cabrera opened the scoring with a solo shot off the Nationals' hurler in the fourth. Eric Campbell drove in the second run charged to Strasburg on a fielder's choice, scoring Cespedes, who'd doubled to open the sixth. Soup knocked in two more runs on a home run in the ninth after a walk from Neil Walker.
