The Mets will activate Yoenis Cespedes and Asdrubal Cabrera from the disabled list before their game against the Giants tonight. New York placed Cespedes on the disabled list on August 4 after the outfielder struggled to play through a right quad injury he had suffered nearly a month earlier. The 30-year-old has hit .289/.362/.548 on the season but had a .303/ .373/.585 line before straining his quad in a July 8 loss to the Nationals. Cespedes will likely play left field upon his return.
The Mets are 6-10 since Cabrera went down with a strained tendon in his left knee on July 31. The shortstop has hit .255/.308/.410 with roughly league-average defense and should push Jose Reyes back to third base.
In the absence of Cespedes and Cabrera, the Mets fell under .500 and are 4.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot in the National League, trailing the Cardinals, Pirates, and Marlins.
