Last week, we asked you to name every general manager in Mets history. For this week’s Mind Boggler, we’re asking you to do the same for Mets managers.
The Mets hired Terry Collins, their current manager, after the 2010 season. Collins was an unorthodox choice. At a time when hiring young, recent former players started becoming the norm, Collins was a 61-year-old baseball lifer. Moreover, while he did have major league managing experience, he had not managed a major league team since 1999, when he resigned from the Angels’ job midseason amid intense clubhouse controversy.
The unlikely Mets manager ultimately found success in New York. After four straight losing years, Collins steered his team to a World Series appearance in 2015 and a Wild Card berth the following year. Assuming he finishes the 2017 season as the Mets’ manager, Collins will rank second in franchise history in managerial wins and first in games managed.
