The Mets lost suffered their fourth-straight defeat and their eighth loss out of their last nine games Sunday night against the Nationals. The loss capped off a three-game sweep at the hands of Washington.
Zack Wheeler took the mound for the Mets, and things immediately blew up on him, as he served up a first-inning grand slam to Daniel Murphy. But Wheeler didn’t allow any other runs to score over his seven innings of work, striking out six while allowing four hits and two walks.
The Mets tried to inch back later in the game with a solo homer by Michael Conforto in the first inning and a two-run jack by Neil Walker in the third inning, but that was all the offense the Mets would muster on the night. The Nationals would seal the deal in the ninth on a Ryan Zimmerman two-run homer.
