The Mets beat the Braves 6-2 tonight to take two of three games in the opening series of their season. Matt Harvey was excellent, as he threw just 77 pitches in the process of going six-and-two-thirds innings pitched. Over that span, he gave up just two runs, both of which scored on solo home runs by Matt Kemp.
The Mets didn’t score early, but they scored often enough. Travis d’Arnaud gave them the lead with a smoked two-run double in the bottom of the fifth, and Wilmer Flores made it 4-1 in favor of the Mets with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.
And the Mets tacked on a couple of runs in the bottom of the seventh, which was more than enough to account for the second Matt Kemp home run. The combination of Jerry Blevins, Fernando Salas, and Addison Reed shut the Braves out the rest of the way after Harvey was done.
