A pair of pitchers making their major league debut were on the mound and one fared much better than the other in the Mets’ 7-3 loss.
Drew Gagnon was on the mound for the Mets and after a clean first, it went downhill and went downhill quickly in the second. Gagnon deflected a ball that would’ve been a groundball out but instead it went for an infield single. After a hit batsman, Maikel Franco hit a very long home run to give the Phillies a 3-0 lead.
It didn’t get much better the next inning when Nick Williams hit a two-run single with the bases-loaded to virtually put the game out of reach for this offense.
It did not matter that Philadelphia sent their own pitcher out to make his major league debut. Enyel De Los Santos had no issues shutting down the Mets, except for Amed Rosario who hit two triples against him that led to all the Met runs. He drove in one and scored the other two.
Tyler Bashlor relieved Gagnon and allowed the Phillies to pile on and all told it was just a typical night at the ballpark for this lowly Mets team.
Full recap to follow.
