Mike Pelfrey, Ike Davis, Fernando Martinez, and Bobby Parnell or Brad Holt for Adrian Gonzalez? Not only do I see it taking more to get San Diego to hand him over, but what exactly is the point? In Davis, we seem to be getting a guy very much fitting the slugging first baseman mold, and we'll still be without power in the outfield.

As much as I hate to link to a Jayson Stark page, I thought it was interesting that this idea he presents on a salary "basement" where teams have to spend a certain minimum amount is pretty much identical to a conversation we had here a while back. Wonder if he read it.
