Recap: Washington vs. San Diego

Sports Network | September 20, 2008

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Chris Young pitched seven scoreless innings and hit a home run to give the San Diego Padres a 6-1 win over the Nationals in the second of three games.

Young (6-6) allowed just two hits and four walks while striking out five to notch the victory.

Edgar Gonzalez also homered while six different players scored a run for the Padres, winners of three out of five.

John Lannan (9-14) allowed four runs -- one earned -- in seven innings of work on four hits and three walks, with five strikeouts.

Aaron Boone had the lone RBI for the Nationals, losers of four straight.

The Padres broke the scoreless tie in the fifth. Nick Hundley walked, and advanced to second on Young's sacrifice two batters later. Hundley then scored as Will Venable hit a ball that second baseman Emilio Bonifacio couldn't field, and Gonzalez followed with his seventh homer of the year to make it 3-0.

Young helped himself out, hitting a solo shot in the seventh, to pad the lead to four.

Adrian Gonzalez and Chase Headley both added RBI singles in the eighth off Charlie Manning to give San Diego a comfortable 6-0 cushion.

Mike Adams started the home eighth for the Padres. Bonifacio singled to lead off, and Ryan Zimmerman moved him to second with a walk. A couple batters later, Boone hit an RBI ground-rule double to make it 6-1.

Padres lead the season series, 4-1...Young's homer was his first of the year...Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzman hit his 35th double...Adrian Gonzalez's RBI was his 115th on the season.
