Pettitte's season over

Sports Network | September 24, 2008

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees have shut down lefty Andy Pettitte for the remainder of the season.

Pettitte was to have started Saturday at Boston, but instead with the Yankees already eliminated from playoff contention, New York manager Joe Girardi said Pettitte will have a chance to rest his sore pitching shoulder.

For the season, the 36-year-old Pettitte compiled a 14-14 record with a 4.54 ERA in 33 starts. He is due to become a free agent this winter.

Sidney Ponson will replace Pettitte on the mound for Saturday.
