Reds' Volquez scratched from start in season finale

Sports Network | September 26, 2008

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday in the team's season finale against the St. Louis Cardinals due to left knee tendinitis.

Volquez was sent back to Cincinnati for further examination while left-hander Adam Pettyjohn will make his lone start of the season in place of Volquez.

The right-handed fireballer, acquired in the deal that sent Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers, went 17-6 with a 3.21 earned-run average in 33 games (32 starts) this season. He was the first Reds' pitcher to compile at least 17 wins since Pete Schourek went 18-7 in 1995.

The Reds close out their season with a three-game set in St. Louis starting Friday.
