Recap: San Francisco vs. Los Angeles

Sports Network | September 28, 2008

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Blake DeWitt homered and drove in the go- ahead run in the seventh inning, as the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the San Francisco Giants, 2-1, in the middle test of a three-game series from AT&T Park.

Greg Maddux (8-13) allowed one run on two hits over six solid innings for Los Angeles to earn his 355th career victory. The historic win moved Maddux past Roger Clemens into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time list.

Rafael Furcal registered two hits for the Dodgers, who will open the playoffs next week against either the Chicago Cubs or the Philadelphia Phillies.

Randy Winn homered for the Giants, who have dropped four of their last five games. Matt Cain (8-14) took the loss after he gave up two runs on eight hits in seven innings of work while walking four and striking out six.

DeWitt's ninth home run of the season, a two-out blast to right, put the Dodgers on the board in the third, but Winn opened the fourth with a shot to right.

The NL West champions regained the lead in the seventh. Casey Blake had a leadoff single and, after pinch-hitter Angel Berroa fouled out to catcher Bengie Molina, Furcal slapped a single off the leg of Cain. DeWitt's base hit to left field scored Blake and gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.

Chad Billingsley tossed two shutout innings and Takashi Saito worked a perfect ninth to record his 18th save.

Derek Lowe will start Game 1 of the NL division series for the Dodgers...Los Angeles stranded 11 runners...Winn's homer gave him 10 for the year...The Dodgers lead the season series, 9-8...Los Angeles' Manny Ramirez went 0-for-2 with a walk...The Giants activated infielder Kevin Frandsen from the 60-day disabled list on Saturday.
