Recap: Arizona vs. Colorado

Sports Network | September 28, 2008

Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Randy Johnson tossed a two-hitter to earn his 295th career victory in what may very well have been his final game in a Diamondbacks uniform, and Arizona completed a three-game sweep with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

The 45-year-old Johnson (11-10), whose contract expires at the end of the season, allowed just one unearned run on two singles to Troy Tulowitzki while fanning nine and walking one for his second complete game this season.

Chris Young drove in both runs for Arizona (82-80), which ended the season with wins in six of its last nine tilts.

Starter Ubaldo Jimenez took a hard-luck no-decision after going seven innings and scattering just three hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Luis Vizcaino (1-2) took the loss after walking in the winning run in the ninth.

Garrett Atkins drew the walk for Colorado (74-88), which closed out the season by dropping five of its last eight. Clint Barmes scored the lone run in defeat.

With the score tied at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Vizcaino caught Mark Reynolds looking for the first out. Miguel Montero, though, worked a walk and Augie Ojeda's single made it first and third.

Pinch-hitter Jeff Salazar earned a free pass before Stephen Drew popped out in foul ground for the second out. Young then worked a seven-pitch walk to drive in pinch-runner Alex Romero and end the game.

The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Barmes led off as he reached second base on Reynolds' fielding gaffe. Tulowitzki then sacrificed him over to third with a bunt and a wild pitch from Johnson scored the runner.

Manny Corpas took over for Colorado on the hill in the eighth and surrendered a one-out solo homer to Young, which tied the contest up at 1-1.

Arizona won 15 of the 18 meetings this season...Reynolds increased his MLB- record to 202 strikeouts for the season and also committed his 35th error.
