Indians exercise option on Carroll

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians announced Thursday that the team has exercised the 2009 team option on infielder Jamey Carroll.
The 34-year-old Carroll batted .277 with one home run and 36 RBI in 113 games during the 2008 season. Carroll, who was acquired by Cleveland from the Colorado Rockies in December 2007 for minor league pitcher Sean Smith, also collected seven stolen bases.
Besides the Indians and Rockies, Carroll played for the Montreal Expos from 2002-04 and then with the Washington Nationals in the 2005 season. He owns a career batting average of .273.
