Hinske replaces injured Floyd on Rays' roster

Sports Network | October 26, 2008

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Rays have replaced the injured Cliff Floyd on their World Series roster with utility player Eric Hinske.

Floyd was hurt during Game 2, a 4-2 Tampa Bay win Thursday night.

"I think either sliding back into the bag or something, he hurt his shoulder," said Rays manager Joe Maddon of Floyd. "It was kind of a concern last night. We had it all checked out, and thus he's not able to participate. So we've had Eric with us for a while. Eric has been working first base, third base, left and right field, pinch-hitter."

Hinske hit .247 with 20 homers and 60 RBI during the regular season. He was on the Division Series roster, but didn't play and was then left off the ALCS roster.

"Skee (Hinske) did a great job for us this year," said Maddon. "Look at his numbers - 20 homers, I think he had 10 stolen bases, played a variety of positions, defensively well for us, really well, actually. So we hate losing Cliff. Cliff has been a big part of what we're doing, he's still going to be here, but Skee has been ready, so we're going to flip him through there and use him in those different roles."
