Recap: Houston vs. Cincinnati

Sports Network | August 26, 2008

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Ryan Hanigan hit the go-ahead homer in the eighth and Bronson Arroyo pitched a complete game, as the Reds beat the Astros, 2-1, in the middle contest of a three-game set. Arroyo (12-10) gave the Reds their first complete game of the season -- the last team in the majors to do so, allowing just one run on five hits and two walks while striking out three. Jeff Keppinger went 2-for-4 while Chris Dickerson went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored for the Reds, who have won four of eight. Mark Loretta scored the lone run for the Astros while no player recorded multiple hits for Houston, which has dropped four of six. Wandy Rodriguez couldn't get the victory despite a strong start, pitching seven innings and allowing just one run and three hits, while walking one and striking out a career-high 10. Geoff Geary (2-3) took the loss. With one out in the eighth, Hanigan hit a solo homer off Geary that barely cleared the yellow line in left field to give the Reds a 2-1 lead before Arroyo tossed a 1-2-3 ninth. The Reds opened the scoring in the fourth. Dickerson led off with a single and Keppinger doubled him to third. Brandon Phillips followed with an RBI groundout for a 1-0 lead. Houston tied the game in the fifth. Loretta singled and Hunter Pence walked to start things off. After advancing on a groundout, Loretta scored on a Brad Ausmus groundout.
