Notes:

This is the Endy shirt:

It has come up against six opponents, and six times the Mets walked away victorious. I'm not really a superstitious person, but you can be sure that I'll be wearing it, untouched by detergent of any kind, until the Mets come up short. Endy shirt will really earn its money tonight if the Mets come away with a win. Chris Carpenter is tough. Beatable, but tough. The Mets won last night without any help from the bat (or legs) of Jose Reyes. Look for him to have a big impact tonight.

UPDATE: Oh Endy Shirt, what did I do to deserve this? To the wash with you!.

Go you Mets!
Here's hoping that Will Leitch is there tonight.  Between him and the Endy shirt, we just may have the mojo to overcome the Carp.
"He even tried to pimp it," Floyd said. "He's got no pimp." Said Wright: "I don't even know what that means."

Eric,
You stink.

But it smells good to me!

enn-dee si
It's hard not to feel an affinity for Chavez, a player who always greets people with a huge smile and warm, brown eyes. With his locker in the clubhouse bordering Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado, Chavez often is dwarfed by the two superstars, and he's usually spotted before games sitting alone playing golf on his handheld Playstation video game.

Teammate and catcher Ramon Castro, who was playing for Puerto Rico four years ago in the Caribbean World Series, witnessed how the fans embraced Chavez. Castro said it's because Chavez always plays hard, is aggressive, and is one of those guys who "likes to get dirty and dive, steal a base and everything."

let's go Mets!
Hope the lucky shirt can carry us through tonight.  I am supposed to be hosting a large group of people for dinner at my house tonight.  Instead, I am cooking dinner and then watching the game, and my friends can eat and watch with me or leave me alone.  I'll be damned if a social life will keep me from seeing this game.

But my posting may suffer for it.

by anonymous on Oct 13, 2006 6:04 PM EDT   0 recs

I'm off to Shea
The Mets are three for three when I've been there to cheer them on this postseason.

The Mets are four for four since the second season started.

Coincidence?  I think not.

Let's go Mets!

Watching the other league now
If the Mets play the Tigers in the fall classic, it could either be ugly or a series for the ages.

Hat vs. Shirt
Hat's still an unbeaten winner too, Eric.

It's funny; I am one of the least superstitious people you'll ever meet, but when the Mets enter the playoffs I become a different person. I snap at people left and right, I'm always on edge, and I become the most superstitious person in the world.

Same here
but Friday the 13th is one I believe in. (First date with the ex-wife - but that's not important now.)

However, I did drive the car today, and I made it home alive, so I consider that a decent start.

Great inning
Three up, three down. Mets' pitching continues to do a great job at keeping guys off base when Pujols comes up.

by Eric Simon on Oct 13, 2006 8:09 PM EDT   0 recs

Yeah
I have confidence in Maine to match Carp pitch for pitch, plus its cold so that usually advantage pitchers.

"This is not Chris Carpenter's stuff."
Brilliant - how about ol' Joe Buck coming up with something good, like "Well whose stuff is it then, Blanche?  Whose stuff is it?"

Carpenter
forgot his stuff in St Loo, so he had to borrow the junk that Jason Marquis throws. Jason's parent's keep his "stuff" in the basement of their Staten Island home.

Pitch Counts
After one inning:

Maine: 9
Carpenter: 26

If Maine gets out of this,
this series is as good as over.

by hotspur on Oct 13, 2006 8:37 PM EDT   0 recs

Nice vertical from Delgado there
what'd he get - 3, 4 inches off the ground?

Hey, I know, it's ok.

"Hakuna Matata."

by Mr. Met on Oct 13, 2006 8:39 PM EDT   0 recs

Hard to be too hard on Maine for that
The strikezone is absolutely random tonight, and Delgado giveth, Delgado taketh away.

by peeder on Oct 13, 2006 8:42 PM EDT   0 recs

Yea
Looking at MLB Advanced Gameday, Maine threw five clear strikes to Edmonds and somehow managed to walk him. This umpire is a complete joke.

Yea
It actually wouldn't come off if I tried at this point.

by Eric Simon on Oct 13, 2006 8:46 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I hope we can continue to work over Carpenter
because once he gets settled in, he can be tough.  He started out badly in his game against the Wadres but then ended up winning it.

or if this ump seriously sux.  Or both, maybe.

McCarver
is a feebleminded buffoon.

He got the missed tag on Wright wrong earlier.

I never mentioned this last night
but McCarver and Buck didn't shut up about how you lose so much power with Floyd out of the lineup.

Chavez SLG, 2006: .431
